MESSAGE
TO AREA DEMOCRATS FROM WILLIAMSBURG CO CHAIR JOHN WHITLEY
Our Democratic President
is being subjected to the outspoken criticism of some
Democrats
in Congress, Paul Krugman and other pundits, and maybe even
some
of us. There seems to be a never ending second-guessing of
President Obama’s
decisions by folk who are supposed to be his
primary base of support. And then there
are the Republicans. This
is not good for our President or for our Democratic Party.
This November, our Nation
will have the opportunity to make absolutely certain
that
Democratic candidates prevail in races for seats in
Congress. But we are facing
enormous challenges from the other
side. Campaign finance laws have opened the
flood gates for
corporate funding of Republican candidates. The Rove-influenced,
Palin-
pampered and Gingrich-fed machines are grinding out their
negative spin, not only
directed at our Democratic candidates,
but at our President and our Democratic Party.
We have a President who
has ushered in Healthcare and Financial Reforms, closed
the door
on the Bush/Cheney Iraq invasion, responded timely to the Gulf
disaster,
stimulated economic recovery, nominated brilliant women
for the US Supreme Court,
and the list goes on. Locally, we have
a powerful woman, Krystal Ball, positioned to
remove Rob Wittman
from Congress.
We have our work cut out
for us. From every email to phone call and every public
meeting
to private party, we, as Democrats, must proclaim the
accomplishments and
virtues of President Barak Obama, Krystal
Ball, and our Democratic Party.
We must do everything we
can by participating in our Democratic Committee meetings
and
activities, volunteering for the Ball Campaign, providing financial
support, sending
letters to the media, and the list goes
on.
If not THIS,
what? If not US, who? In not NOW, when?
