Williamsburg
Creates Text Messaging Service for Residents
8/9/2010
To
enhance communications and the partnership between the City and the
citizen, the City of Williamsburg has launched CITY411,
a text messaging system to enable residents to report a municipal
service need from their text-enabled cell phone. The service is
intended for reporting
non-emergency issues - anything from a crooked stop sign or pothole
to an abandoned vehicle or missed trash pickup. It also provides
residents with the option to register their mobile phones at www.williamsburgva.gov/CITY411 to
receive occasional text messages from the City regarding upcoming
events, instant alerts, and other pertinent information. Standard
text messaging rates may apply depending on the user's mobile phone
plan. The cost to the City is $79/month for up to 500 messages or
$99/month for 1000 messages.
