FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 12 - Fall 2010 W&M Geopolitics Lecture Series concludes at W&M - Mark Monmonier, distinguished professor of geogeaphy at Wyracuse University's Maxwell; School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and author of 15 books, will discuss "Fear and Loathing in Geopolitics: Cartographies of Pretension and Persuasion" This lecture will be in Small Hall on the W&M campus at 4 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 17—JAMES CITY DEMOCRATS MEET
Professor George Grayson will speak on "Mexico's Struggle with Drugs and Thugs.” 
George represented Williamsburg and James City County in the House of Delegates for many years before the Republicans “ferrymandered” him into Bill Barlow’s district in 2001. George has made two hundred research trips to Mexico and appears regularly on CNN and other news programs. Professor Grayson’s most recent books are Mexico’s Struggle with Drugs and Thugs and Mexico: Narco-Violence and a Failed State? George will be pleased to sign copies of these books before the meeting. A limited supply will be available for purchase.

Ben Thacker-Gwaltney will offer the Virginia Organizing Project workshop providing a background for people th think about the tax and budget system in VA. It focuses on - How does the VA budget work? What problems have lead us to budget shortfalls? and What can VA do to solve the shortfall without hruting lower income taxpayers?
